Classes

Our dance is a gift we share. Women of all shapes, sizes, and ages enjoy this dance. It provides a low-impact aerobic activity while developing core muscles. Classes are in a warm, loving atmosphere where women can feel included and safe.

Historically, women danced for each other in celebration. It is in this spirit women can be both sensuous and empowered at the same moment. Some individuals prefer to savor the classroom experience, while others enjoy performing. It is a personal choice.

Classes are ongoing – start any time! Wear comfortable clothing you can move in easily. We ask you either have bare feet or wear dance shoes. The studio has a few pairs of zils (finger cymbals) and extra hips scarves you may use for class, or bring your own.

Beginning Classes

Tribal Basics I

Basics I classes offer an introduction to the 10 basic moves that make up our dance.

Tribal Basics II

You will learn many of the intricate moves, as well as exchanges and pass-throughs. We introduce the chorus concept – with dancers moving in and out of the chorus.

Advanced Classes

Must have instructor approval to take these classes.

Swords, Skirts, Baskets, Veils, and Floor Work

Specialty classes for those who wish to add another level of showmanship to their dance.

Troupe Sicorae

Troupe Sicorae is the main performing group of 9 Muses Studio.

Fun and Frivolity!

Please bring your own beverage and a snack to share.

Haflas

Haflas are a great opportunity to dress up (belly dance light) and practice your new skills with other dancers. Held on special occasions throughout the year.

Stitch 'n' Bitch

Bring any of your current handiwork projects or questions and we'll work on them together! Held periodically throughout the year.

Tribal Basics I

60 minutes
$10 or punch on card
drop-in, all levels welcome

Monday 7:00-8:00 *
Saturdays 12:00-1:00

Basics I classes offer an introduction to the 10 basic moves that make up our dance. You will learn some of the move embellishments and variations. You will have an introduction to position changes and zills (finger cymbals). Classes are ongoing – start any time!

This is the starting point for all dancers. Even if you have danced with another troupe, we recommended you start here so you can learn our “dialect”. Everyone moves at their own pace. The classes are taught to include the least experienced in attendance. More experienced dancers often enjoy refreshing their knowledge by attending basic classes.

60 minutes
$10 or punch on card
drop-ins welcome, but you must have the instructor's approval to advance to this class

Monday 6:00-7:00 *

You will learn many of the intricate moves, as well as exchanges and pass-throughs. We introduce the chorus concept – with dancers moving in and out of the chorus.

Discuss with your instructors to see if you are ready for this class. You need a solid foundation in the basics of the dance before moving on. We find people move through the levels at their individual pace – some learn the early steps quickly, others learn advanced technique quicker.
